Wesson and Mothershed Eye Center is a truly unique eye care clinic. Dr. Fred Mothershed and Dr. Matthew Wesson had separate optometric and ophthalmic practices in Tupelo for twenty-five years before coming together. They came to know each other quite well as former members of a practice management group.
Through this contact they developed a close friendship, realizing that their common goal professionally was to better serve the eye-care needs of Tupelo and the surrounding area. They felt this would be accomplished best by combining their various services and areas of expertise in the same building. By doing this, they felt they could provide a much broader range of services than what they could provide individually. In October of 2002, they moved into their new facility at 3353 North Gloster in Tupelo. The association of Wesson and Mothershed Eye Center has exceeded their expectations!
In 2004, Tupelo natives and husband and wife team, Drs. Dax and Beth Eckard joined the practice. While practicing previously in both Mississippi and Tennessee, both Dr. Beth and Dr. Dax bring a specialty niche of low vision, pre and post-operative LASIK management, ocular disease and specialty contact lens experience to the practice.
Our most recent addition to our practice is Dr. Sonya Miles. Dr. Miles joined our group in October of 2010. Dr. Miles brings with her an expertise in general Ophthalmology with an emphasis in both cataract and oculoplastic surgery. She is a native of Tennessee and is married to Stephen Miles, who is a native Mississippian from Columbus.
While being business partners, our Tupelo eye doctors and staff interact like close friends and family. We think of our patients as close friends and family too.
